How double curtains work
Double curtains use two layers on separate tracks: typically a sheer or sunscreen at the glass for gentle, filtered light and daytime privacy, plus a blockout layer you draw when you want darkness, insulation, and full screening. Operate each layer independently - keep the sheer closed for a bright, private room during the day, then bring the blockout across for sleep or movie nights.
The bedroom above shows S-fold (wave) headings on both layers: even, architectural folds that suit wide spans and corner windows. Custom-made to your openings, double curtains deliver a polished, designer look with practical day-to-night control.
When two tracks are the right choice
One S-fold curtain is enough when the room only needs filtered daylight or only needs one fabric. One blockout is enough when the room must go dark and you do not need a sheer left closed through the day.
Choose two tracks when the same opening has to do both jobs: a sheer at the glass for daytime privacy, and a blockout you draw at night. Bedrooms, west-facing living rooms, and street-facing glass are the usual cases. Wide spans can take a Novo N21 on either track. Pinch pleat and box pleat headings are on designer curtains when S-fold is not the look you want.
Layering: which curtain goes where
The sheer usually sits on the track closest to the glass and the blockout on the room side. The sheer filters daylight and gives daytime privacy; the blockout is drawn across it when you want darkness or night-time privacy.

Both layers can use the same heading, like the S-fold pair in the Palm Beach bedroom above, or you can choose S-fold, pinch pleat or box pleat to suit the room.
Track spacing and stack-back
Two tracks sit side by side above the window, so there needs to be room for both. At the measure we check that space, whether the tracks can be ceiling-fixed or need to be wall-fixed, and how much room each layer needs to stack beside the window.
We plan both tracks together so the layers stack neatly, the heading looks tidy from inside the room and wide glass stays easy to walk through when the curtains are open.
Motorising one layer or both
Each layer runs on its own track, so you can motorise the sheer, the blockout or both. Each motorised track has its own Novo N21 curtain motor, and you can still open the layers separately.

What affects the price of double curtains?
A double curtain is two curtains and two tracks made for one opening, so the quote reflects both layers. Your free in-home measure gives you the exact figure. The main factors are:
- Two fabrics: the sheer and blockout ranges you choose
- Size of the opening: width and drop, for both layers
- Headings: S-fold, pinch pleat or box pleat on each layer
- Two tracks: ceiling-fixed or wall-fixed, straight, curved or bay
- Motors: none, one or two, as each motorised track has its own motor
- Number of windows and installation: ceiling height, access and fixing
